I’ve had my Simrad G09 XSE for under a month now and absolutely love it. Firstly, I think this unit is well built. It features CHIRP Sonar StructureScan HD and an internal 10Hz GPS receiver for fish finding. It is the answer for folks who want to expand the capabilities of cruisers and sports boats.
I was confused about buying this or the Simrad G07 XSE. I’ll save you some trouble and just ask you to go with the new G09 XSE that uses intuitive, multitouch akin what’s on your tablet and smartphone to add waypoints, access navigation charts, and access key information on the nine-inch color screen.
Buy it, and you get plenty of options, and all the functionality you could want. The Simrad GO9 XSE is a first-rate unit, and I recommend it to all anglers. Amazon isn’t paying me for writing this review, I just think the unit is excellent, and anyone on the fence shouldn’t hesitate to get one.
User-Friendly Operation
The G09 XSE offers touch sensitive controls that mobile device users will find familiar, integrated with an intuitive menu navigation that involves no special instructions. Starting from the home screen, a simple tap lets you select or create pinch to zoom, drag across waypoints and charts.
Multi-Touch Display
The G09 XSE provides ease of use with sensitive touchscreen controls that tablets and smartphone users will find familiar. Tap and drag to pan easily across charts, pinch to zoom, or simply tap to select or create waypoints. Uncomplicated Menu and home screen layouts make all functions manageable, with lucidly captioned and large icons that are easy to recognize and tap.
Built-in Sonar
Knowing the depth underneath your hull can help you enjoy your time on the water stress-free, and makes it simpler to find waterfronts in unfamiliar waters. With inbuilt sonar, just add a suitable sonar transducer for accurate, real-time depth tracking.

Customizable Interface
This unit is completely customizable to outfit your vessel and your favorite offshore activities- from water sports to fishing, to power boating. Customize the home screen with shortcuts to the features you often use and add a personal taste to it with beautiful wallpapers.
Tripintel Technology
Fishes will be enthralled with the inbuilt Tripintel technology that displays and keeps track of crucial data fuel range that is draped on charts, full history of earlier excursions to examine complete vessel performance and future tide levels.
Sonar
This is short for, Sound Navigation and Range. It was used during the Second World War to find submarines. Shortly thereafter, commercial fishing companies were allowed to use it. Sonar gives you crystal clear images of what is on the ocean, river or lake bottom. You will have no problem locating schools of fish, or larger fish.
The images you get are very clear, and the data is quickly refreshed to provide you with real-time images. The G09 XSE remains undisputed for the clarity and crispness that the Down Vu imaging provides.
Built-in Wi-Fi Connectivity
What I love about G09 XSE is its wi-fi connectivity. If you have some friends on board that devote most of their time up at the bow, they can still see the sounder screen on their tablet or phone. All they have to do is get the free Simrad GoFree app online and pair up their gadgets. Interesting, huh?
Price
If you are the avid fisher, then fish finders will very easily pay for themselves several times over, in a value of the free fish. They begin at a hundred dollars and even more costly models will pay for themselves, with time. You need to determine the much are willing to or can afford to spend. The most expensive devices don’t need to be the best; there are some very efficient and quality fish finders at affordable prices such as the GO9 XSE.
Charting
A distinctive cruise charting view page brings together navigation charts and data in one easily readable display with the capability to edit on-screen data for the data most pertinent to your cruising style and on-water activities. The Simrad’s Navionics cartography supports many platforms including NY Digital Charts, C-Map Max-N, and insight genesis.

Have you used it in the rain? When wet, is it an issue to use the touch screen as it doesn’t have any buttons. Have read that people said it has been an issue if it’s not under cover.
Thanks,
Richard
I haven’t use that in rain. Lets try that.
